Peace Development Fund stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community after the tragedy in Colorado Springs

We at Peace Development Fund are saddened and angered by the hate-motivated tragedy in Colorado Springs over the weekend. Incidents like this reverberate across communities and have lasting impacts on the queer community. Our condolences go out to the friends and families of those affected by this deliberate act of violence fueled by hatred. 
 

Tragedies like this are all too commonplace in this country and push us to stay the course in our support of LGBTQ+ rights.  This violent act was especially hurtful, happening on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance.  Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. At least 32 trans people were murdered in 2022 and more than half were black women. 

We are grateful to our community partners and grantees around the country who continue organizing for a more just world that affirms LGBTQ+ people.  They are on the frontlines of change and prevention. We encourage you to support them and their work and add others to the list: Queer Trans Project, Queer Youth Assemble, Heart and Hand Fund, Lighthouse Foundation, Tight Lipped and the Alyssa Rodriquez Center for Gender Justice and support PDF, as well, as we fund other new and emerging LGBTQ+ groups.
