Justice, Dignity and Human Rights: Community Organizing Around the Globe

In the early 2000s PDF began three program initiatives: Cross Border, Criminal Justice and Building Action for Sustainable Environments (BASE). The cross border work encompassed building stronger networks among the many communities whose lives are affected by the U.S. and Mexico border, globalization, militarization and criminal activity. It predicted the rise in the criminalization of immigrants, and the militarization of the border with Mexico.

Our commitment to funding immigrant rights has never wavered, as seen in our 2017 Community Organizing Grant cycle, where we funded five organizations whose work focuses on protecting and fighting for immigrants. One of those organizations was the Welcome Project (WP) of Somerville, MA, which builds bridges across language, race, class and culture by providing strengths-based, culturally affirming programming for immigrant youth, adults and families.
